It has been some time since I have seen this price for a home in Truckee. This home just came on the market on Friday, 12/21 for $299,000. It is a 2 bedroom 1 bathroom and has a one car garage. If you or anyone you know is looking to get into the market in Truckee, this is an unbeatable price! Check it out at the below link. Have a Merry Christmas!

Dreaming of a white Christmas? You’re in luck!

This morning I went to Squaw Valley to check out the new snow that just dumped on the Truckee/Lake Tahoe region this week. It was better than I expected! Red Dog chair was spinning and the Resort chair, as well as the new Shirley Lake six- pack chair and the Funitel. The cold temperatures still held snow in the trees, creating a true winter wonderland. Although coverage is still a bit thin in places, it was smooth and powdery. Considering winter doesn’t even begin until Friday, I think we are off to a fabulous start!

Another big storm is hitting as I write this, projected to snow about 5 inches tonight and continuing into Thursday, and again on Saturday. It is shaping up to be a very merry Christmas season!

Have you checked out the Sunset Idea House yet?

Lake Tahoe Sunset Idea House Gray’s Crossing

My husband and I and my colleague Megan went to the Sunset Idea House to, well, get some ideas. The first thing that struck me as I got out of my car is that the house is very low profile from the road. As you walk toward the front door, there is a mini-flume water feature that gurgles through a Zen-like courtyard.

The home has solar panels that are linked to the local power grid. This in turn earns a check from the power company. What a bonus! The house did make thoughtful use of recycled materials such as redwood interior trim and pine windows which gave a beautiful contrasting affect of red and yellow. I also liked the outdoor shower as well as the outdoor soaking tub. The house gave off an aura that said “relax…retreat.” For the price of 5.5 million, I suppose it darn well better!

This morning I awoke to huge snowflakes falling on top of about 9-12 inches in my yard. This usually means more up high and could be the start of another wonderful ski season!

See you on the slopes…

The Government’s Subprime ‘Bailout’… necessary or disasterous to housing market?

Posted by Maura on December 7th, 2007 — Posted in real estate

I stumbled across this article by David Bui from Seeking Alpha.  As a realtor, it does not paint a rosy picture for the potential for further fallout in the lending market, and rippling out to the rest of the housing market via further depreciation. Aren’t we at the bottom yet?!

Silent night, holy crowds!

Alright. I know I inferred that this blog was real estate-based. However, this weekend I went down to San Francisco to see my good friend Jen’s new baby.

I also took in some holiday shopping, since we don’t have any big malls in Tahoe. So my friend Christine and I thought it would be “Christmasy” to go to Union Square. On a Saturday. At 1 pm. Yikes. If you do not live in the city and want to give yourself a quick panic attack, I advise you do what I did, which was to crawl toward Downtown in stop-and-go traffic for 45 minutes and go about half  a mile. Then, spend  thirty minutes in the parking garage, stalking shoppers returning to their cars and pouncing on them to grab their spot.

By the time we got out of the car, we were already stressed out. Our first stop was Macy’s. Even getting to Macy’s, we spent more time looking up than actually watching where we were walking. When you live in the mountains, it is strange to have the sky crowded with buildings. Yes, I have been to San Francisco many times before. In fact I grew up in the South Bay Area. But…after 14 years in Tahoe, I guess I just forgot how crowded the city was. People were everywhere. I couldn’t even concentrate on shopping because the lines everywhere were long and there were people frantically grabbing and talking on their cell phones.

By the time we walked up and down the same street a few times hoping that Pottery Barn would jump out at us, Christine and I finally decided we best cash our chips and go home with our sanity. It looks like online shopping might be the best bet for this mountain dweller.
