Good weather and warm temperatures are here for the annual Great Race

This afternoon, my dog June Bug and I skied from the green gate in Truckee on the 06 Fire Road (also known as the Great Race Trail) to enjoy some skate skiing prior to Sunday’s annual Great Race.

The race, which begins at the Nordic Center in Tahoe City and climbs over Mount Watson, twists and turns, ending at the Cottonwood Restaurant in Truckee. It is such a great community event! People of all abilities, including ex-olympians, travel the course on snowshoes, skate skis, or cross country skis or even running or walking. It is a 30 kilometer (18.43 mile) race, not to be taken lightly. If you are up this weekend and want to do an incredible local event with a great party at the Cottonwood afterwards, I highly suggest doing the Great Race.

Even the famous aren’t immune to this market

Hi folks-

After an unscheduled trip to Vermont last week, I am back. Sorry for the delay. Anyway, as I logged on to my computer this morning, I came across this story on Yahoo’s homepage about Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch being forclosed upon. It seems that the King of Pop owes a cool $25 million on the property, and if he doesn’t pony up quickly, he will lose it next month.

As I read this, can’t help think….”Really?! I thought that guy was loaded!”

I guess this real estate market isn’t just really bad for the average Joe’s like us… even Michael Jackson can’t make the mortgage. Read this story I found on Yahoo for more….Michael Jackson Forclosure Story in OMG.

It doesn’t get much better than this market, people.

Sorry. I have been slacking. There has been alot going on lately! A primary election that is as close as a Kentucky Derby, alot of snow in my neck of the woods, a couple of substantial rate cuts by Bernanke and his folks, and a flurry of activity in my own real estate world that has kept me from writing.

Moving right along, the drop in interest rates for home loans has brought some buyers out of the woodwork. I have actually shown property twice this week, and most of the home’s listing agents told me that listings have been shown alot lately. Perhaps the tides are finally turning.

My friend Huck Ferrill with First Security Loan in Roseville, Ca. said that the Sacramento area has seen a huge increase in escrows on entry-level homes as of late, and he has been pre-qualifying about 6 new buyers a day. Wow! That is promising…

There is also alot of buzz as of late about the economic stimulus package. Not only do tax payers receive a check, but there are some very interesting opportunities for homebuyers.   This plan should kickstart some activity where there was some hesitation to purchase homes in the past year.

As I walked in from getting the mail today, I was flipping through the new issue of Outside Magazine to see my friend, fellow Truckeeite and pro snowboarder Jeremy Jones. Jeremy has started a non-profit called Protect Our Winters (POW) which, according to POW’s website, is “dedicated to reversing the global warming crisis, with a direct focus on the winter sports community.” Wow. what a great cause. If you like coming up to the mountains and enjoying winter sports, or just enjoy watching it snow, check out POW’s website and see what we can do to protect our winters so that there will be snow in the future.

Enjoy the President’s Holiday. The slopes will be crowded but the weather is beautiful and sunny. Enjoy!

As always, if you or your friends and family are thinking of buying real estate in the Truckee/Tahoe area, please have them contact me. This is the best time in history to buy a new home or trade up.

Jeep King of the Moutain comes to Squaw Valley this weekend

Looking for something to do this weekend? The Jeep King of the Mountain will be swinging through Squaw valley this weekend, starting Friday, February 9. This is the second year the event will be at Squaw Valley. With such headliners as Daron Rahlves in the Skiercross competition on Saturday and Olympic halfpipe Gold Medalist Shaun White  competing on Monday in the halfpipe competition.

The party will continue into the night with such musical acts as The Roots and Dinosaur Jr. performing at the Basecamp Pavilion.

Last year this event was a huge success and a really fun party. How often do you get to see this lineup of athletes in one spot other than the olympics?

And if that isn’t enough excitement for you, there is always my son’s third birthday party…

Further news about the housing meltdown…

A client of mine passed this article along to me in the January 31 issue of Business Week Magazine.

It doesn’t paint a pretty picture, projecting another 25% drop in housing prices. Give it a read. Again, I feel that if you have been thinking of buying, there never has been a better time! If you are a qualified buyer, a 30 year fixed loan is in the 5.5% range. Combine this with buyers in the driver seat, and this = very big deals. I just wish all of my buyers could realize this!
