Labor Day Weekend can only mean one thing…Burning Man!

Unless you live in a cave, it is hard to ignore the strange vehicles hitting the roads over the past week; fuzzy bikes loaded on the back of old RV’s…cars piled high with multi-colored objects, building materials, feathers, boas and bling. No, Reno is not hosting Woodstock or a world fair for freaks, Burning Man cometh again.

Although I did not have the pleasure of attending this week, I did send my husband on a surprise birthday mission out to Black Rock City, aka “The Playa” for two nights and one day earlier this week. He came back exhausted, tired, happy, and very very dusty. Like how Mad Max must have looked like when coming back from the desert.

The Bummer at Burning Man

Burning Man is, well, part art festival, part costume party, part nudist colony, cultural get-your-freak-on global event. Anything…and I mean anything goes.

The festival, or “The Man”, as it is known to those who have attended, goes through Labor Day. Careful driving within the vicinity Sunday and Monday, as the festival-goers haven’t slept much, and there is a mass exodus out of Black Rock City.

Have a safe and enjoyable Labor Day weekend.

Rodeo comes to Truckee

Cowboy on a bucking bronco

The annual rodeo came to the Truckee Rodeo Grounds at the Truckee Regional Park this weekend. The event began on Sunday at 2:00 pm with the rodeo queen running a few laps with the American flag, followed by bronco riding, mutton busting for kids aged 4-6, and the biggest crowd pleaser, the bull riders, as well as barrel racing, and calf roping.

The arena is bordered on one side by shady, grassy hills for spectating and tall bleachers on the other side. It was a great family event with close views of the action for all to enjoy. There was plenty of entertainment for the kids with the sideshows like the shoes-off kids race and the dogs goofing around with the rodeo clown.

If you are in town in August, keep an eye out for this classic Truckee event.
